The art of plastic surgery

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

The shape and size of the nose can have an effect on the entire facial aesthetic. Our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Daniel Maman and Dr. Stafford Broumand, can reshape and recontour the nose for results that improve balance and harmony among facial features. Rhinoplasty is an advanced procedure that can reduce the appearance of a prominent nose or reduce the size of the nostrils, resculpt the nasal bridge, or address a number of other issues. This popular treatment has helped people all over the world feel less self-conscious and more confident in their appearance.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can often be an excellent option for individuals interested in enhancing the appearance of their nose and/or improving their ability to breath properly. Depending on your unique needs, this procedure can:

  • Increase/decrease the size of the nose
  • Reshape the nostrils
  • Reduce the size of the nasal tip
  • Reduce the size of the nasal bridge
  • Correct issues resulting from a deviated septum
  • Improve nasal breathing

As an added benefit, many patients who undergo rhinoplasty report a significant boost in self-confidence and esteem following their procedure thanks to a more balanced, harmonious facial aesthetic.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, Dr. Broumand and Dr. Maman offer both closed and open rhinoplasty, both of which are tailored to the patient’s specific needs and desires. Closed rhinoplasty is generally performed through the nostrils using tiny incisions made inside the nose. In contrast, open rhinoplasty typically involves an incision made in the vertical strip of the nose, allowing for the separation of skin from the underlying nasal framework. During surgery, bone and cartilage are reshaped as needed until the desired outcome is achieved. In rare instances, a cartilage graft may be necessary to achieve optimal results. Rhinoplasty surgery typically takes about one to two hours to complete, though this will vary based on the extent of the operation. Most patients are able to return home with the aid of a close friend or family member shortly after their procedure.

Rhinoplasty Recovery and Results

Some swelling and bruising in the nasal area will be present after surgery; however, any discomfort can be controlled with medication. A nasal splint is usually placed for a temporary period of time so that the nose maintains its new shape. Any strenuous activity should be avoided for a few weeks after surgery, and care should be taken to keep the nose protected from harm for one month following the rhinoplasty procedure. Most patients are able to resume normal daily activities after one week.

There is generally little to no visible scarring from rhinoplasty, as all incisions are well-hidden and/or made inside the nose. The results of the procedure will be most apparent after the initial swelling from surgery has subsided. Once this occurs, patients often benefit from beautiful, natural-looking outcomes with improved facial harmony.
