Revision Breast Surgery

For a variety of reasons, some women may eventually decide to revise or enhance the results of a previous breast surgery. Whether you would like to exchange your breast implants for a different size or type (such as upgrading from saline to silicone); whether you are experiencing a complication from the initial surgery; or if you are simply dissatisfied with the outcome from a previous breast enhancement procedure, our board-certified plastic surgeons can help. Dr. Daniel Maman and Dr. Stafford Broumand are experienced and skilled with a number of breast revision surgery techniques and can help you attain your goals with beautiful, natural-looking results.

Benefits of Breast Revision Surgery

As previously mentioned, revision breast surgery can be an extremely beneficial procedure for individuals who are dissatisfied with the outcome of a past breast operation, patients whose cosmetic goals and desires have evolved over time, and/or those who are experiencing a complication from an earlier procedure. More specifically, breast revision surgery can help patients:

  • Upgrade their implants from saline to silicone
  • Increase or decrease the size of their breasts
  • Improve the symmetry and/or shape of their breasts
  • Replace an implant that is ruptured and/or leaking
  • Correct implant malpositioning, symmastia, rippling, capsular contracture, and various other potential breast implant complications

Ultimately, breast revision surgery can help you achieve the results you originally sought to attain, or the new outcomes you currently desire.

The Breast Revision Procedure

At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, Dr. Maman and Dr. Broumand can often perform revision breast surgery using your original incisions, therefore reducing the potential for additional scarring. After the current breast implant is removed, the new implant (if desired) will be placed and positioned appropriately for optimal results. This may involve moving the implant to a new pocket location, depending on whether your initial implant was placed above or below the muscle. Customized based on your unique needs and goals, the breast revision procedure generally takes about an hour and a half to complete, though this may vary by individual.

Breast Revision Surgery Recovery and Results

Most patients are able to return to normal daily routines within one week after revision breast surgery. There will be some swelling and bruising present after surgery; however, any discomfort can generally be alleviated with medication. Dr. Broumand and Dr. Maman advise patients to refrain from any strenuous activity for at least one month after surgery.

Ultimately, final results from revision breast surgery can be extremely rewarding for women who are dissatisfied with the outcome of a previous augmentation, and we have found that those who have undergone revision breast surgery at our practice are some of the happiest patients following their operation.
